“The change starts within each one of us. And ends only when children are free to be children.” This is a famous quote by an advocate, Craig Kielburger, who is more commonly known as the founder of Free the Children - a non-governmental organization (NGO) that helps educate children and end poverty. Free the Children is an international NGO co-founded by Craig Kielburger and his older brother, Marc Kielburger. It runs in many countries including Canada, United States of America, United Kingdom, countries in Africa and in South Asia (source). In 1995 when Free the Children was established, Craig was only 12. He stumbled upon a story about Iqbal Masih, a Pakistani boy who was assassinated after standing up against child labour in his country. This story had a deep impact on Craig so he decided, with some of his peers, to start Free the Children. Free the Children currently has a goal to improve five main factors which are education, health care, income, food security and clean water (source).
